Cargo Transfers

For a Transport Fever 3 cargo transfer, use a warehouse between the incoming and outgoing transport lines. Put it within the catchment radius of both stations, make sure it stores the cargo being transferred, and configure the outgoing line to load that cargo. This is the handoff for ships, trains, trucks, and cargo hubs; placing two terminals beside each other does not replace the warehouse.

How do I transfer cargo from ships to trains or trucks?

Place a warehouse in reach of both stations

Select the port and the receiving train station or truck cargo station separately. Each station's catchment radius must include the warehouse. Blue highlighting indicates cargo transfer access; white indicates both cargo and passenger access. The warehouse itself does not need road access.

Check the warehouse's stored cargo settings

Open the warehouse window and select Stocks. Each module's row shows supported cargo, the amount stored, and average remaining delivery time. For a specialized module, click its cargo type icon to select the cargo it should store.

Configure the outgoing line to load the cargo

In the line manager's bottom area, click the stop's configuration button or cargo icons. At the warehouse pickup stop, select the cargo to load and its load percentage. If you are moving fish onward from a port, configure fish loading on the truck line rather than leaving the stop without a cargo selection.

Check unloading and the onward destination

Cargo unloads automatically at a stop with a relevant consumer or a nearby warehouse configured to store it. The outgoing line must then carry it to the town or factory: those buildings cannot take cargo directly from the warehouse. Check the destination's demand icons and station coverage. For a longer supply chain, see Connect Distant Resources and Industries.

For the port-to-town question “Produkte weiter Transportieren?”, use the same warehouse handoff and fish-loading check. A truck loading station near the port is only part of the setup.

Which warehouse should my cargo hub use?

Universal warehouse — recommended for a mix of cargo

A universal warehouse is the cost-efficient generic option and can store a mix of all cargo types. Choose it when you want mixed storage at the interchange.

Specialized warehouse — faster handling for selected cargo

Specializations are available for Liquid, Bulk, Flatbed, and Goods. They freeze the cargo item's delivery timer and allow faster loading and unloading, but each module stores only one cargo type at a time. Crude oil and fuel need two modules even though both belong to Liquid.

A matching specialization does not let one module hold every cargo in that category simultaneously. Check the selected cargo type in Stocks before expecting the incoming vehicle to unload.

Why can't I set up cargo transfer from train to road?

Check the warning against the handoff settings:

Warning or symptomWhat to check
“the line isn't configured to load any cargo”Select cargo at the truck line's warehouse pickup stop in the line manager.
“Cargo type cannot be unloaded”Check the incoming station's warehouse coverage and whether the warehouse module supports and is configured for that cargo.
“Cargo Type cannot be loaded”Check the outgoing station's warehouse coverage, stored cargo, and stop loading filter.
Warehouse highlights blue, but the transfer still failsBlue confirms cargo access. The cause and fix for the reported stone and brick transfer failures are not confirmed yet.

If the incoming leg fails, continue with Ships Not Unloading Cargo or Trains Not Unloading Cargo. If the transfer train also carries passengers, see Passenger and Cargo on One Train.

Should the pickup vehicle wait for a full load?

Load if available

The vehicle stops and loads any compatible cargo available.

Full load (any)

The vehicle waits until one cargo type is fully loaded.

Full load (all)

The vehicle waits until it is fully loaded. In the vanilla game, the difference between “any” and “all” applies to trains and ships with separate wagons or compartments. Other vehicle types wait for a full load under either setting.
